JEREMY W. JOHNSTON is the author of J.R.R. Tolkien: Christian Maker of Middle-earth (H&E, 2023), All Things New: Essays on Christianity, culture & the arts (Joshua Press, 2018) and Undiminished Returns: Poems of a Christian Life (H&E, 2020). He is an adjunct professor and teacher of literature, rhetoric, classical studies, and history at several institutions, including Heritage College & Seminary in Cambridge, ON, Redeemer University in Ancaster, ON, and Mohawk College in Hamilton, ON. He holds a Master’s degree in Education and an Honors degree in English Literature and Humanities from the University of Western Ontario. For over ten years, he was the arts columnist for Barnabas magazine, which is published by the Sovereign Grace Fellowship of Canada. He has been involved in Christian Education—teaching, preaching and speaking—at local churches and Christian venues for many years. Jeremy and his wife, Laurie, have also homeschooled their four children for over 20 years. They live in Hamilton, Ontario.​

Short-term Missions

• Ecuador (Summer 1992): On a team of North American youth, worked to construct a school facility at the Fundacion Principe de Paz Orphanage. 
• Albania (Summer 1995) | Assistant Leader: Traveled to Albania as an Assistant Leader on a team of thirty-five North American youth (aged 13 to 19).  Worked at the Hope for the World Orphanage building a new roof on a learning facility and leading drama team excursions into Tiranë, the capital city.

WHAT DOES JEREMY BELIEVE?

Jeremy W. Johnston is a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ and he holds to orthodox Christianity articulated by the Apostles creed (see below); he also holds to the Protestant Reformed tradition beautifully conveyed by the "five solas" of the Reformation: "sola Scriptura" the Bible alone is our highest authority, "sola fide" we are saved through faith alone in Jesus Christ, "sola gratia" we are saved by the grace of God alone, "solus Christus" Jesus Christ alone is our Lord, Savior, and King, "soli Deo gloria" we live for the glory of God alone. These five tenets define Jeremy's theological framework but not the bounds of friendship. Jeremy has ministered and served in a variety of Christian and non-Christian contexts.
